El estudio se centró en el censo de aves y mamíferos marinos en todo el territorio circundante al pueblo de Raúl Marín Balmaceda. La metodología consistió en el registro de especies mediante transectos terrestres y marinos durante dos semanas en el mes de febrero de 2019. Estos transectos terrestres abarcaron gran parte de la costa y su interior, mientras que los transectos marinos incluyeron el grupo de islas llamado Las Hermanas. En términos de aves, los resultados mostraron un total de 40 especies en ambos transectos. Respecto a la fauna marina, se avistaron Lagenorhynchus australis, Cephalorhynchus eutropia, Arctophoca australis, Otaria flavescens, Lontra provocax y Lontra felina en ambos transectos. Se proponen directrices para que el inevitable posicionamiento de Raúl Marín Balmaceda como punto de ecoturismo e investigación científica no se vea disminuido y pueda ser explotado en su totalidad, minimizando la intervención en el ecosistema existente.
The study was focused on the census of birds and marine mammals throughout the territory surrounding the village of Raúl Marín Balmaceda. The methodology consists on the register of species through land and sea transects during two weeks in the month of February 2019, these land transects incorporate a great part of the coast and its interiors, and the sea transects that includes the group of islands called Las Hermanas. The results in terms of birds, showed a total of 40 species in both transects. Regarding the marine fauna, Lagenorhynchus australis, Cephalorhynchus eutropia, Arctophoca australis, Otaria flavescens, Lontra provocax and Lontra felina were sighted in both transects. Guidelines are proposed so the inevitable positioning of Raúl Marín Balmaceda as a point of ecotourism and scientific investigation won’t be diminished and can be exploited in its entirety, dealing with least intervention possible to the existing ecosystem.
